Humanizing Cold Calls with Gifts
Gifting can be incorporated into your everyday workflow to help humanize your outreach. It can be especially helpful when making cold calls, because you often have such a short period of time to make a connection, and prospects are often less-than-pleased to be receiving an unexpected phone call from someone they don’t know.
One of the best ways to set yourself up for success is by creating templates for common dispositions from your cold calls.
Cold Call Disposition Templates
Here are some examples of scenarios that create an opportunity for connection and relationship-building with prospects and can easily be turned into templates:
Referral
If you connect with someone from a target account and they aren’t the right contact, you are likely incredibly grateful if they put you in contact with the appropriate the decision-maker. What better way to express your gratitude than a little gesture of appreciation?
Gift Ideas:
- Coffee Gift Set
- Box of 12 Brigadeiros
Sample Talk Track:
Hey - thanks so much for sharing this info/the right person to reach out to. I’d love to send over a quick thank you - are you more of a coffee or chocolate person?
Bad Time
This next example is a great go-to if you’ve called a prospect and it’s a really bad time for them. Maybe they are preparing for an important meeting or they are heading out to pick up their kids.
Instead of losing the chance to talk to them, you can create another opportunity for a future conversation by sending them a little something that will remind them of you.
Gift Idea:
- Unicorn piñata
- Potted plant
- Gift box with snacks
Sample Talk Track:
Hey, totally get that it’s not a good time, appreciate you picking up. I’ll shoot you a note and a little something that I hope will brighten your day.
Voicemail (high-value prospect)
In this next example, let’s say you’re trying to get a hold of a high-value prospect and you can’t get them to pick up the phone. Leave a voicemail that says something like:
Hey {name}, no need to call me back. Sent you a gift I think you might like more than a cold call. Feel free to give me a shout after you check it out. It’s {name} at {company}.
Gift idea:
- Spa gift set
- Candle gift set
Include a little more information about what you’d like to discuss in an email.
It can say something like:
Hey {first name} - Brand leaders at {company} were feeling so stretched thin when it came to {value prop}. Seems like you might be in a similar spot.
Here’s a little gift to help you take a break and relax. You can redeem it here: {and then include the MagicLink}
I would love to share how {company name} can give you some time back in your day by {value prop}. Open to learning more?
It will make you stand out from the crowd in their inbox and create a compelling reason to respond.
Sick Day (high-value prospect)
Another disposition you might come across when you’re making cold calls, is a prospect who can’t talk because they are under the weather themselves, or they have their hands full with a sick child. When you or someone in your family isn’t feeling well, one of the nicest things someone can do is drop off a meal to lift some of the burden.
Gift idea:
- DoorDash gift card
- Care package with soup
Sample Talk Track:
Oh man, cold call when you (or your kids are) sick is the worst kind of cold call. So sorry to interrupt your rest. I’ll let you go and send a little surprise that will hopefully make your life easier as you or your family recover!
