Your Admins have set up your Postal instance and prepared you for success when sending items through Postal. Before letting loose and using budgeted dollars on an item in the Marketplace, let’s go over the unique ways you can configure types of sends for your intended recipients.
In this guide, we will walk through how to configure a MagicLink, a Personalized Email, and Direct send through the platform as well as WHY you might want to use one send method vs. another.
Our example: Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket.

Understanding the recipient experience in Postal is a crucial part of making sure your sends are happening the way you want them to. It’s always best to begin with the end in mind!
Testing your sends is easy and should be done to ensure you are comfortable with send-flow prior to using your dollars to do so. Let's walk through it 😄
What is Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket?
So what in the world is this item in the Marketplace, you ask? The Golden Ticket is a fake, cost-free item that allows you to see the recipient experience start to finish without deducting from your Budget or actually sending an item. It must be approved by your Admin such that you as a User can practice the Postal send-flow.
Now that you are ready to test a send with the Golden Ticket, let’s review the three main ways you can send a Postal! These include:
Note: Since we cannot send a fake virtual Golden Ticket to someone’s doorstep via Direct send, we will walk through MagicLink and Personalized Email creation in this resource.
What is a MagicLink?
The MagicLink is a way to allow recipients to simply click an embedded link or associated QR code in order to redeem a gift from you. You are able to customize this link to determine how many total redemptions are allowed, as well as how long the link is active. It’s great to send (copy and paste) via any channel with minimal information about your recipient needed.
$$$ Your budget is only charged when someone uses the link to redeem a gift.
Where to use:
- Event QR Codes (In-person or Virtual) linking to a marketplace item, swag, prizes, etc.
- Embed easily in Outreach Sequences, Salesloft Cadences, or emails
- Marketing Content / Newsletters / Customer Survey Feedback
- LinkedIn, Slack, Text, etc.
Easy enough! MagicLinks are definitely favorites as they are easy to configure and a quick copy/paste for Sales, CS, and People Ops Users in Postal.
Now, onto the second way to send a Postal, and that is a personalized email.
What is a Personalized Email?
A Personalized Email is a customized, branded email sent to your contact that presents them with the gift you are sending. The contact can either “Accept” or “Decline” the gift within the email.
You get to write the copy in your Subject Line, Email Message, and the Landing Page!
When to use:
- Can only be an email, not sent any other way; a great first touch
- One-to-one hyper personalized gifts for target accounts
- Re-engage cold / non-responsive opportunities
- One-to-many gifts as part of larger marketing campaign (send as: contact owner)
$$$ Funds are pulled from your budget upon hitting send allowing the recipient to act on the gift now in their inbox. However, funds will be returned to your budget if declined or the gift email expires.
Note: Users must have their emails integrated with Postal to send on behalf of your company domain.
Nice! Now you know the two main ways to send a Postal. In the video resource, we will walk through how to configure each. However, to round out the definitions here, I want to share what a Direct Send is in the Postal platform.
What is a Direct Send?
Sending a Postal via Direct Send means that you have your intended recipient’s address on file and you want to “surprise and delight” the recipient with an item on their doorstep or to their office! You can allow for shipping and delivered notifications to go out to the recipient, or you can keep it a total surprise. Sends are often made via Direct Send by People Ops Teams to delight employees or larger one-to-many target Marketing campaigns.
Now let’s use the Golden Ticket to practice sends!
